Remember Rahab, A Heroine Of Faith

Hebrews 11: 31 [KJV]
By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

Rahab was listed in the hall of fame alongside great heroes like Abraham, Noah, Enoch, Joshua, Gideon and others in Hebrews 11. Rahab the harlot, yet was named among God’s generals, one who was of the blessed linage of Christ Jesus. God wrought His glorious work in Rahab from the moment she displayed her act of faith.

What was Rahab’s act of faith? What act of faith did well known prostitute perform to enlist her alongside great men of God?

Rahab was a Canaanite woman who lived in Jericho. God wanted to subdue Jericho so that His beloved to cross over to their promised land, so Joshua sent out spies. She hid two Israelite spies who were sent to scout the city before the Israelites attacked. God brought down the wall of Jericho bricks by bricks. In return, the Israelites spared her life and her family. Rahab became part of the people of Israel.

She is considered a biblical heroine and an example of a saint who lived by faith. and out of her weakness came the infinite gain. Rahab’s story is an example of God’s redemptive love for sinners; whatever the status or rottenness. Rahab’s faith enabled her to turn away from her culture and religion and to the Lord.

God so changed her afterwards that she raised a son called Boaz for God, Boaz married Ruth, a Moabitess, Ruth became Rahab’s daughter in law. Rahab’s great-great grandson was King David. Rahab was an ancestor of Jesus Christ and King David. She is listed in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.

Religious people are always mindful of the outward expressions. They attach much importance to a physical weakness or the frailties of the body and neglect the inward changes God has wrought on the inside. We often err and make wrong assertions on people because of our knowledge of their past ordeals.

Many shall stand in awe in heaven when they see the so called “neglected folks” taking their seat at the grandstands with the Lord Jesus on that day.

Remember Rahab today, remember that by her act of faith she was declared right righteous and her right standing with God is still valid till today.

Ecclesiastes 3: 14 [KJV]
I know that, whatsoever God does, it shall be forever: nothing can be added to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God does it, that men should fear before him.

Remember this about yourself, that God also had declared you righteous from the moment you placed your faith in the finished works of Christ and nothing can ever undo what God did. Glory to God!
