Financial Stewardship
Luke 16:10 – 11 (NIV)
10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?
Jesus said, if you can’t be faithful in your finances, then you can’t be trusted with anything!
Financial stewardship is the ability to spend resources wisely. This is the first step in being a faithful steward of God’s resources. Resources include time, money, people, and property. Everyone has resources, no one lacks resources, but not everyone spends resources wise.
Everything at my disposal is God’s gift; people, time, access and money. Financial stewardship means my money is seen as God’s money. It is from God, and should be used for God’s purposes and glory.
The goal of today’s devotional is to help you discover how to turn your finances over to God, and to step into true prosperity in every area of your life.
God owns my resources, God owns my life, God owns my money, God owns my talents. (That nothing that I have is truly mine). Every penny I own belongs to God! I am just a manager of his resources.
1 Chronicles 29:12 (KJV)
Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
Lose the ownership of what you have mentally, lose the ownership of what you have done or given. When you give something to the Lord or you give something to someone, lose the ownership of it, how do you do that? By seeing every opportunity to give as a privilege.
We are not owners, we are managers; we are stewards. We can’t be stewards of God’s resources if we want to own God’s resources.
Financial stewardship is faithfully giving back to God as he has blessed and prospered you. Financial stewardship is giving to honour God in your local church and for the sake of the gospel. Financial stewardship is being a manager of God’s resources. Financial Stewardship is responding to God’s grace towards in you to others. Financial stewardship is spending God’s resources at your disposal wisely to avoid waste.
