Free From Offence

Philippians 1:9 – 10 [KJV]
9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ

To be without offence in this context means not to err from the main scope and design of what is expected of a believer, not stumbling, so as either to actively or passively trouble others in the heavenly course, but working so prudently, as to give no just occasion of scandal, or laying a snare for one or other and abiding blameless to the coming of Christ.

Also in 2 Corinthians 6:3, Paul talks about “giving no offence which means, to present no obstacle such as to upset the Godly principles and that the work of the ministry and the cause of the gospel of the Christ will not be blamed.

Hence, we are to abound more in the knowledge of God’s word and in sound judgment, approving things that are excellent. All things are meant to be tried and proved, spiritual senses should be exercised to discern, good or evil

The word “approve” means to test for approval. This is spiritual discernment. Discernment is the ability to distinguish between the chaff and wheat, the dross and the gold, the genuine and the superficial. God will not use anything apart from His.

You have nothing to offer the world until you have offered all to God. He purges us thoroughly until there’s no place for offence in us. Every process in spiritual growth is a blessing, it is God’s way of way of making his men.

Automobiles need to be tested on a torture track before they are sold to the public. If the design do not meet the test, it is sent back for redesign. You do not put a car with faulty engine on the market; God tests us for approval. Test reveals strength, strength will produce excellence.

God deals with the heart until every beat of the heart beats for Him. The end goal of God’s dealing with us is to produce excellent, fruitful and abiding works.

DECLARATIONS
I live free of all offences. I approve all things that are excellent. I am blameless, sincere and without offence till the appearing of Christ my blessed Lord and Saviour. Glory to His name!
